Long Beach

Dennis Sales, Also known as "Uncle Walrus," passed away peacefully on January15, 2025, at 11:28 AM at St. Mary’s Hospital in Long Beach, surrounded by the love of his daughter, Lisa. Dennis was born on September 15, 1946, in Belfast, Ireland, Dennis led a life filled with laughter, love, and remarkable achievements that profoundly impacted those around him.

His professional journey was a testament to his dedication and hard work. Dennis began his career humbly, starting as a welder, and impressively worked his way up to become a supervisor for the Long Beach Gas Department. Yet, it was his character as a devoted husband and father that truly defined him. His love for his wife, Phyllis, was unmatched; they celebrated 53 wonderful years together, a union that was marked by a deep bond and connection like no other. If there were a star for every moment they loved each other, the night would shine brighter than the day.

Dennis was not just a family man; he was the heart of his family. He was a best friend and confidante to Lisa, his daughter. They shared a special connection, complemented by their shared weird sense of humor, which they often showcased through spontaneous moments of fun and laughter. Whenever Phyllis would say "Ok you two, Can we do a nice photo together this time?" As they would both immediately make the funniest face they could quickly think of.

Education held a special place in his heart, as he attended university in Belfast, where he developed his skills and later worked building aircrafts. His passion for music flourished when he and his younger brother, David, started the White Rock Flute Band, which many still consider the best flute band in Belfast. Dennis would often say, “Can you hear it? The boys are coming,” a phrase that encapsulated his vibrant spirit and love for life.

Even after his retirement, Dennis maintained cherished friendships with his two closest friends, Carl and Mike. Despite the miles separating them, their weekly calls became a ritual filled with shenanigans and memories to last a lifetime, proving that true friendship transcends distance.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis; his daughter, Lisa; his brother-in-law, Hugh; and his cherished nieces, Andrea, Lynne, and Leigh, along with their husbands and partners, Jeff and Michael. He is also survived by his great nephews, Josh, Joel, Cameron, Corey, and Curtis, who will carry forward the legacy of his wit and love.

As we gather to honor Dennis, we remember a witty and remarkable man whose life was a master class in love and laughter. His commitment to being there for family and friends made him the glue that held them together. Though he may no longer walk among us, Dennis Sales’ spirit will forever illuminate the lives he touched, and his laughter will be echoed in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
