Dennis Bothwell, a lifelong truck driver, passed away peacefully at home in Cypress, California on September 6, 2024. Born on August 30, 1940, in Huron, South Dakota, Dennis lived a life marked by hard work, passion, and devotion to his family and friends.
Throughout his career as a truck driver, Dennis was known for his dedication to his craft and his ability to tackle the demands of the road with a spirit that was both ornery and feisty. His personality reflected a complex man—a tough exterior that concealed a huge heart, as well as a mischievous spirit that endeared him to those around him. He exemplified the qualities of a fighter, always pushing through challenges while nurturing those he loved.
Dennis had a rich tapestry of interests that included fishing, hunting, turning wrenches and hustling pool. He cherished the time spent outdoors, embracing the serenity of nature and the thrill of chase. In his youth, he also enjoyed playing basketball in high school, showcasing the competitive spirit that would follow him throughout his life.
A devoted man, Dennis took pride in helping raise his instant adopted family with Ruth, Kathy, Robert, Teresa and Ross, followed by Dennis and Misty. He further embraced his role as a grandfather, leaving a lasting legacy through the love he bestowed upon his grandchildren: Dennis, Misty, Amy, Ricky, Jeff, James, Morgan, Austin, Kalin, and Elaina. His proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly leaving the lasting impression of hard work and dedication to his loved ones, all while constantly keeping them on their toes.
Dennis is survived by his loving "wife", Ruth Powell; sister, Mariellen Ross; and his children Robert and Ross. He is preceded in death by his sister Doris and brothers Dewain, Dean, Max, David, and Douglas, who were a part of his earlier life, leaving cherished yet ornery memories that will not be forgotten.
A funeral service to honor Dennis will be held on September 17, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Forest Lawn - Cypress - Patriots Chapel, located at 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630. Following the funeral will be a Celebration of Life at his home at 10181 Hialeah Drive, Cypress, CA 90630.
