Delia Herrera, 62, of Bellflower passed away on August 6, 2017 after a battle with cancer. Delia possessed a beautiful spirit inside and out and she had a remarkable impact on all those who knew her. Delia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and she will be sorely missed.
Delia was born on March 2, 1955 in Compton, CA to Eduvigues and Eva Mercado. She grew up in Compton and attended Compton High School. After high school, Delia started working at Magnesium Alloy. In 1974, Delia met Natanael "Nate" Herrera. They married in December 1975 and together they had two sons: Daniel and Steven. Delia and Nate's partnership was strong and filled with respect, love, and laughs. It was clear, even to those who met them for the first time, how much they were meant to be together. Delia was very proud of her children. The bond she shared with her sons was special and she was their biggest supporter in everything they did. Delia absolutely adored her grandson, Alexander. Before Alexander was born, anyone could see Delia beaming with excitement and pride as she awaited his arrival. She planned a beautiful baby shower and after the baby was born she helped take care of him as an infant and loved and nurtured him all the days she spent with him.
Delia enjoyed traditions, especially Christmas. Her beautifully decorated trees evoke memories of the holidays and family gatherings. Delia also enjoyed traveling; visiting her son Daniel all around the country and traveling with Nate to visit family and friends.
Delia is survived by Nate, her husband of 42 years; children Daniel (wife Dana) and Steven; grandchild Alexander; her mother Eva Mercado; her siblings Joe Mercado, Ismael Mercado, Hector Mercado, John Mercado, Daniel Mercado, Espy Soto, Rosie Bravo Ramirez, and Amelia Mercado; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Eduvigues Mercado; her siblings Alice Correto, Helen Jaramillo, and Billy Mercado.
A memorial service will be held August 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Church of Our Fathers, Forest-Lawn-Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress, CA with a reception at the Herrera residence in Bellflower to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to one of the following charities: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Women's Cancer Research Foundation, or Kaiser Permanente Hospice Home Care.
