Dr. David E. Perkins passed away on October 24, 2024, in Palm Desert, CA. He was born in St. Louis,
MO on September 30, 1929, to Elwood and Virginia (nee Stansbury) Perkins.
Dr. Perkins graduated from Washington University and Washington University School of Medicine
in St. Louis. After serving in the Navy, he had a distinguished career as a radiologist with Scott
Radiology Group in St. Louis, where he served as President and Chairman of the Board for a
combined 19 years. He also contributed to his field as President of the Greater St. Louis Society of
Radiologists.
In 1952, Dave married his high school sweetheart, Marqueritte “Marge” R. Hollan. They shared a
passion for supporting their community, notably the St. Louis Zoo and the Living Desert in Palm
Desert, CA. In 2012, they were honored with the Saint Louis Zoo Award for their dedicated
volunteerism and financial contributions. Dave and Marge were longtime members of Greenbriar
Hills Country Club in Kirkwood, MO, and The Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert, CA, where he
served as President at both clubs. Their loving marriage lasted 62 years until Marge's passing in
2014.
In 2016, Dave married Sandy Hypes of Palm Desert, CA. Their marriage was filled with love and
laughter until her passing in 2021.
Dr. Perkins is survived by his niece and nephew, Ellen (Russ) Decker and John (Jessica) Perkins;
great-nieces Haley Decker and Brenna Decker; stepchildren Mary Dale (Mike) Keath, Chuck Hypes,
and Debra (Tim) Flaherty; and god children Darcy (Chris) Dalton and Nicholas Brown.
In his youth, Dave was an accomplished trumpet player and enjoyed singing with his brothers.
Remembered for his big personality and easy laugh, Dave will be deeply missed.
A private interment was held at Valhalla Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to The St. Louis Zoo, The St. Louis Symphony, The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens,
or Friends of Palm Springs Philharmonic.
