David Moran Ortiz

April 17, 1959 — February 27, 2018

David Moran Ortiz, age 58, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on February 27, 2018 after a heroic and hard-fought battle with illness. Born on April 17, 1959 to long-standing Lincoln Heights residents, Ramon and Laura Ortiz, he was one of seven much loved children. As part of an ever growing and devoted family, his amazing sense of humor and gift for silliness (his Donald Duck impression was pure gold) ensured that his presence never went unnoticed and drew everyone towards him…like the sound of laughter floating through the evening air.

At the young age of 15, he received the priceless gift of a donated kidney, and became the 246th transplant patient in the world. Understanding the importance of making every moment count, he channeled his father's outstanding work ethic, and was Key Club president for two years at Lincoln High School. After graduating, he embarked on his career path and worked at Security Pacific National Bank for over a decade. He later earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and ultimately secured a respected place in the project management industry, where he would accumulate 25 years of experience working for prominent companies, such as United Research Services and General Dynamics.

Always blessed, he married his beautiful wife and soulmate, Carmen. Together, they spent the next 39 years humbly navigating the twists and turns that make up a celebrated life. It would be a journey highlighted along the way by his passion for music, the desert, bicycling, and science fiction stories – as he continually turned to Star Trek and the X-Files as an ever favorite means of inspiring his youthful energy. A faithful servant, he was the Spanish worship leader at Calvary Chapel of Adelanto, and because he was his most authentic self while behind a guitar, he often guided his genuine love for the Lord into every song that he played.

He had such a joyful spirit. He was so very good…and he was extremely loved.
David is survived by his wife, two daughters, and four grandchildren. Now and forever, he will be known as a devoted husband, beloved father, magnificent grandfather, fantastic brother, cherished uncle, and beautiful son. A memorial service will be held in his honor at The Church of Our Heritage, Forest Lawn – Covina Hills on Saturday, March 17th at 12:00pm. His presence was such a tremendous blessing. The family asks that you please remember him through acts of kindness and with a full and happy heart.
