Eulogy of David Michael Montano, Jr.
David was born on April 30, 1960, at Los Angeles General Medical Center, otherwise known as General Hospital. His parents were David Montano and Terry Acosta. He was the second of five children, 3 girls and 2 boys. David grew up in Boyle Heights and attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and Woodrow Wilson Senior High School. He later attended East L.A. College for a short time.
At a young age, he began working in a neighborhood grocery store, in fact, he was so young that they had to pay him on the side. At age 17, his father taught him the skills to become a meat cutter and helped him to get his first official job as an apprentice meat cutter at Market Basket. So began his 38-year career as a Teamster and a Meat Cutter.
On July 29, 1979 (at age 19) he followed a customer of Alpha Beta out to the parking lot and asked, “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” And so, he met his future wife, Linda Santiago on her 19th birthday. They got married nearly a year later on June 17, 1980. Their first child, Michelle Camille Montano, was born on October 3, 1980, and three and a half years later their second child, Jaclyn Monique Montano, was born on March 2, 1984. During this time David began working for Ralph’s as a Meat Manager in the L.A. area. Soon afterward, they bought their first home in Victorville in November 1991. After moving into their new home, it didn’t take long for their 3rd child, Lindsy Nicole Montano, to be born on November 5, 1992. Six years later, they bought their current home, of 26 years, in Corona, California. David retired from Ralph’s 10 years ago and enjoyed his family, friends, home, and attending to his garden.
David is survived by his wife Linda; his daughters, Michelle, Jaclyn, and Lindsy; his mother Terry; his sisters Debbie, Diana, and Cathy; his brother Eddie; and his grandchildren Colin, Chase, Caleb, Mario, Leo, and Adrian.
May God watch over him until we meet again.
