David Jenkins

October 19, 1934 — July 5, 2020

David passed peacefully from this life with his daughters by his side at 4:37 am on Sunday, July 5th. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the past 10 months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He exhibited strength and grace throughout this challenging time, and was blessed to maintain his good looks and good humor through it all.

David was born in Shuqualak, Mississippi on October 19, 1934 to Fred Jenkins, Sr. and Annie (McClebb) Jenkins. He graduated from Gentry High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation. He moved to California in 1958 and has made Los Angeles his home for the past 62 years. He started working at United Airlines in 1960 and had a career that spanned 47 years. He enjoyed helping people as they departed on their journeys and was admired by both passing travelers and fellow employees alike for his good nature, strong work ethic and for being so handsome! Furthermore, David was a faithful parishioner of St. Philomena Catholic Church for more than 40 years and served as a dedicated usher at the 7:00 pm Saturday mass throughout his retirement.

David is survived by his wife of 24 years, Delmy Maribel Jenkins; daughters, Janet Lee Jenkins, Kerrisha Jenkins and Jade Jenkins; grandchildren Matthew Jenkins and Leila Cornett; siblings Rebecca (Charles) Roberts, William Henry Jenkins, Fred Jenkins, Jr. and Lennie Jenkins; goddaughter Jaylyn Jenkins; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. David was preceded in death by daughter Chasity Jenkins; his parents and siblings Ora Jenkins Peterman, Howard Jenkins, Issac Jenkins and Eunice Jenkins Jordan.

The Jenkins Family would be honored if donations are made in David's name to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research at lustgarten.org or the Alzheimer's Association of America at alzfdn.org.
