David Astorga

June 6, 1951 — June 29, 2025

Long Beach, CA

David Astorga was born on June 6th, 1951 and rode off into the sunset on June 29th, 2025. He is survived by his wife Melody McGroarty, his children Matthew Astorga & Christina Cruz and his grandchildren along with extended family. His wife, children & family were his world. While he has departed the physical plane, he will never truly die because he lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. David was a man who would go the extra mile for you and who always had a smile on his face. He led a seasoned life full of love, hardwork, adventure, tenacity and stubborn grit. David graduated from Long Beach polytechnic high school in 1969. He then heard our nation's call and volunteered to serve in the United States Air Force. While he served, he learned the skills for his lifelong profession of being a machinist. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force after serving for 4 years. He then became a machinist for Edison at their nuclear facilities in San Onofre and El Segundo, his career spanning 30 years. David embodied the ideals of hard work and dedication to something greater than himself and he carried that service into caring for his family. In his youth he was an avid surfer, frequenting beaches in Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Carlsbad and Encinitas. He loved the feel of the ocean as he paddled out and waited for his next set, enjoying the powerful, but calm swaying. David had likened the waves once to the ups and downs of his life, enjoying the ocean & watching the tides ebb and flow. This tied into his enjoyment of going on cruises with his love, Melody. David had a passion for Harley motorcycles and the feeling of freedom they offered, he owned several throughout his life. His favorite was a black and silver 1997 Heritage softail classic. David unequivocally loved and lived life his way and on his terms. In the beginning of his life and in the end he was surrounded by family & showered with love. We will never forget that smile or those big genuine bear hugs he would wrap you in. Today & forever we honor him as a piece of our heart is now forever broken. We fill those broken spaces with the many happy and loving memories that we have knowing he still lives on through them.

There are no formal services planned. Please leave a comment with a memory of David for his loved ones to enjoy.
