Danu Hardjadinata, 90, born on November 20, 1926, in Karawang, Indonesia, passed away March 24, 2017. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.

DANU HARDJADINATA BIOGRAPHY
Danu Hardjadinata, born as Tjiong Soey Bouw, began his life journey in Karawang, West Java, Indonesia, on November 20, 1926. When Danu was three years old, his mother, Tan Wiet Nio, passed away. Danu's father, Tjiong Jan Soey, was an Evangelist and spread the word of God to both Evie Koa and Rose (Roosje) Koa (Koa Jang Kie), who both came to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. As a result of his father's efforts, Danu met Roosje, falling in love and marrying in Bandung in September 1948.
The couple settled down in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, and were blessed with five children: Thomas, Philip, Richard (1952-2016+), Martha and Ratna-Juanita. The family moved around Indonesia, from Banjar to Bojonglopang to Sukabumi to Lampung, before permanently settling down in Jakarta in 1967.
Danu did not receive formal higher education but he always had a passion for learning, reading a variety of books ranging from classic literature to politics to do-it-yourself books. Danu was also a very handy man: he worked on cars, built furniture and tackled minor repairs around the house. Danu and Rose also gardened in their spare time. Danu enjoyed playing the piano, violin and harmonica, and his musical talent was passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Opa Danu was very faithful to God. Opa Danu and Oma Rose brought their children to church every Sunday from early on. Their love for God was shown through their involvement with church activities and with faithful tithing. Although Opa Danu was not a wealthy person, he diligently set aside money to tithe to the church. On one occasion, their church, St. Paul Evangelical Church in Cerritos, was fundraising to purchase a building. Opa Danu, wanting to help in any way he could, would collect his spare change in a coin bank and when it was full, he would give it to the church. His acts of generosity inspired the congregation to do the same and donate towards the church building acquisition.
Opa did not only love his children and grandchildren, but also others, especially the meek and unfortunate. He always donated the children's and grandchildren's unwanted items to people who needed them. During his visits to Jakarta, when he found a good spiritual book at a store, such as the ones written by Andar Ismail, he would buy extras to pass along to friends. Opa always took the time to visit extended family and close friends throughout his life.
Opa Danu and Oma Rose moved to Los Angeles in 1998. Opa's love for Oma grew as the years passed. He remained steadfast in his devotion to Oma, especially when Oma was sick in her last days. He never left her side until she went home to Heaven in September 2010. Opa Danu then lived by himself until September 2015, when he moved back to Jakarta.
Opa's spiritual life also grew as he aged. Opa's life experiences taught him to surrender everything completely to God. Before returning to Jakarta, Evangelist Tjiu Jung Jung visited Opa at the hospital and asked him how he felt about returning to Jakarta. Opa's reply was, "It's all up to God."
Opa's life is reflected in Jeremiah 17:7 ("But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him"). Although Opa and Oma never had an abundance of money, God blessed them abundantly with family and friends and always met their needs.
Opa has completed his journey on Earth and has passed his faith on to his family and others. The way he led his life inspires and reminds us to always be faithful to God.
