Danilo Cancio

April 8, 1946 — February 29, 2024

On Leap Day, February 29, 2024, Danilo "Danny" Cancio, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 77. He resided in Gardena, CA at the time of his passing.

Danny was born on April 8, 1946 in Manila, Philippines, as the first child and only son of Ricardo Cancio and Lorenza De La Cruz.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Josie Briones; son Ricardo, daughter Djoanna (Anson), daughter Valentine (Henri); grandchildren DaeQuan (Sao), Lylaani, Mateo; and great granddaughter Phoenix.

Danny is also survived by his 4 younger sisters, Leonida (Benny), Teresita (Frank), Catalina, Emilia; and a close knit of extended family including brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews.

Danny grew up in Sampaloc, Manila but spent his teenage years in Paco where he met Josie, his lifetime soulmate whom he called "Mahal." Together they were blessed with 3 loving children.

Danny loved sports, music, horse racing, and Jai-alai. In his younger days, Danny played in bowling and basketball leagues. He was also a representative of the local Barangay. He attended Arellano University from first grade to high school where he got his loyal student award. He also went to University of the East for two years. He worked for his Uncle Manuel Cancio managing various movie theaters and also working at Goodwill Bookstore.

Danny came to the US to join his Mahal and kids in 1993 living in Danville, VA for a couple of years. An avid Elvis fan, he did not miss the opportunity to visit Graceland while driving cross country during their move from Virginia to California where he worked as a security officer for 27 years.

In his later years, he generously donated to the native American tribes of Pechanga and Pala.

Danny had a gift of making everyone laugh. Friends and families were always entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor. His legacy will live on forever.
