Dan Hauserman passed away peacefully in his sleep in Sutter Creek, CA on March 12th at the age of 89. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 23, 1924 to Earl Fredrick Hauserman & Mary Martin, he was the youngest of nine children, 8 boys & one girl. Dan joined the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in the European theater and was involved in the invasion of Southern France. Upon his return, he attended Loyola University in Los Angeles, and while there, met his future wife, Joan Weaver, who was in school at UCLA. After a short courtship, they married in l948. Eighteen months later, after graduating from college and having their first child, they moved to Cleveland, where Dan worked for his family's steel partition business, The E. F. Hauserman Co., started by Dan's father after he invented movable steel walls for office buildings. After several years there, Dan was transferred to St. Louis, MO and then to San Francisco. By then, they had 5 children. In 1960, he left the family business and moved to Lake Tahoe, where Dan & Joan became real estate broker-developers. They still own The Cobblestone, a busy shopping center in Tahoe City, which they developed beginning in 1964, until the last building was completed in 2000. He was a volunteer fireman and member of the Tahoe City Rotary. In 1962, while on vacation in Hawaii, he went fishing off the coast of Kona and surprised all by catching the world's largest Pacific Blue Marlin, 1009 lbs. In 1966, their sixth child was born within months of the opening of The Cobblestone. Dan and Joan retired in 1986 and have lived in The Springs in Rancho Mirage, CA ever since, where Dan loved playing golf & tennis. Until recently, they enjoyed their summers in the Muskoka Lakes area, north of Toronto, Canada, where his family vacationed while he was "growing up." He volunteered at Eisenhower Hospital as a Eucharistic Minister from St. Louis Catholic Church in Cathedral City for many years. Dan & Joan are members of the Knights & Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher order. They were presented the "Amar Es Entregarse" award from Bishop Gerald Barnes in 2008, which states "love is the total giving of oneself". Dan is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan, his six children; Susie Bellomy (Dave), Julie Perachiotti (Frank), Mary Carnell (John), Dan Hauserman Jr., Tim Hauserman (Sandy) and Heidi Wilmott (Donn), plus 14 grandchildren -Eli, Tom & Ben Bellomy, Mia & Tony Perachiotti, Laura Stout, Logan Carnell, Caela White, Hayden, Holly, Sarah & Hannah Hauserman, Halle & Megan Wilmott and 12 great grandchildren.
