Dale Bertrand Trickey, 85, passed from this life on October 4, 2017, at his home in Thousand Palms, California. He was born August 13, 1932, in Marion, Ohio to Thurland Francis Trickey and Dorothy Mary Lowry Smiley.
He attended Harding High School in Marion, Ohio and graduated in 1951. He went on to attend Grossmont College in El Cajon, CA.
Dale and his wife, Laura 'Jane' Evans, met as children and were friends until they were married on February 14, 1952, in Edinburgh, Indiana. They celebrated 65 years of their life together this year.
During the Korean war, Dale served in the U.S. Air Force as a cook as well as in the Air Force Police. A couple years after Dale got out of the service they settled their growing family in San Diego, California.
Dale was an accomplished chef, food service director, leasing director and had a knack for marketing throughout his career.
Dale and Jane decided to move to Thousand Palms, CA in 1989. After 10 years in marketing, Dale retired. It didn't take long for him to come out of retirement to work as a pharmacy employee for Town Center Pharmacy. He retired twice before it stuck. However, that didn't stop him from giving his time to others. He volunteered as the activities director at the Hacienda de Monterey and organized and cooked for church events.
Dale was passionate about old western movies, sports and loved playing (winning) card games. His quick wit kept those around him on their toes otherwise he would be pulling their leg. He was renowned for his one-liners. If you spent time with him you had surely been encouraged to "take your time but hurry up" and if you had a request of him you were likely to hear "sure, i'll do it the 2nd Tuesday of next week."
Dale was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was beloved by his wife, Laura 'Jane' Trickey of Thousand Palms CA; parents, Thurland Trickey and Dorothy Smiley (deceased); sister, Jean Trickey Crider of Circleville OH; brother, Thomas Trickey of Hesperia CA; sister, Billie Smiley Pierce (Terry Pierce) of Alliance Nebraska; brother, Robert Smiley (deceased); son, Richard Trickey (Ida Trickey) of San Diego CA; daughter, Debra Trickey Jahn (David Jahn) of Spokane WA; son, Jeffrey Trickey (Mona Trickey) of Camarillo CA; son, Danny Trickey (Paula Trickey) of Oceanside CA; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 12, at 12 pm at the Shadow Rock Church (79390 Hwy. 111), La Quinta, CA. A Graveside Service will be held directly afterwards at 2:30 pm at the Desert Memorial Park Cemetery (31705 Da Vall Dr. Cathedral City, CA).
