Daisy Chan

February 26, 1932 — November 15, 2022

Daisy Chan passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022 at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, CA at the age of 90. She will be remembered as a woman who was self-less, caring, passionate, and enterprising; devoted to her family, her church, her friends, and her community.

Born in Phoenix, AZ, Daisy as a child growing up worked many hours in the family's grocery store while being diligent in her studies in elementary and high school. Her dedication to hard work, perseverance, and responsibility towards the family would help shape her life in the years to come. She graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class in 1950, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University in 1954, and was active in college leadership, including president at Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Upon graduation, she went on to become an elementary school teacher in Phoenix.

Daisy relocated to Los Angeles with her older sister Marie in 1956 to work as a teacher, and soon met the love of her life, Roy, at a church social. They later got married in 1957. She left teaching to raise her 4 children and support Roy's business, Chan & Yee Contractors. She returned to the workforce with the start up of East West Bank in 1973, where she established the Escrow Department and later rose to regional Vice President.

Her faith in the Lord and serving the local church was always important to her. She was involved in different ministries and leadership roles at True Light Presbyterian Church and later with San Gabriel Presbyterian Church. She was a prominent leader and fellow sister to the many women in the Los Angeles Chinese Women's Club. After having multiple heart bypass surgeries in 1993 & 1999, she regularly attended the Cardiac Rehab Program at Huntington Hospital, and was thankful to God for giving her improved health to enjoy the life he had planned for her.

In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, getting the family together for Sunday dinners, and enjoyed catching up with longtime friends over lunch. She served faithfully at San Gabriel Presbyterian church - as a church leader, bible study leader, in women's ministry, and served with a loving and caring heart for others. Daisy and Roy liked to go camping at their Echo Lake property near Mt Shasta, and took many road trips together. She was an avid reader of many genres of books, and a big fan of all sports - watching and analyzing the Lakers, Rams, Dodgers, and UCLA games on television.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Roy; her brother, Richard (Pam) Yee; her sister, Jackie (Brian) Hing; her four children Jamie Chan, Garry (Marsha) Chan, Tammy (Tom) Chew, and Steven (Shirley) Chan; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Lou, and her brother, Wesley Yee.

A private graveside service for the immediate family will be held at Forest Lawn Glendale in December.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Evergreen Baptist Church of San Gabriel Valley, 323 Workman Mill Road, La Puente, CA, on February 25, 2023 at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to San Gabriel Presbyterian Church - Daisy Chan Memorial Fund (200 W. Las Tunas Dr, San Gabriel, CA 91776) or to Huntington Hospital in Daisy Chan's name (www.giving.huntingtonhospital.com).
