Plaistow, NH: Colin P. Henderson, 69, a resident of Plaistow since 1976 and a former resident of Akron, OH for several years, died on October 23, 2014 at Hannah Duston Nursing Home in Haverhill.
Born in London, England, and raised and educated in Brunswick and Cleveland, OH, son of the late Armstrong and Edna (Clarkson) Henderson, he graduated from Brunswick High School and attended Cleveland State University and the University of Akron.
Mr. Henderson served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1971 and was honorably discharge with the rank of Sergeant. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Henderson was employed as an Instrument Mechanic and Instrument Technician for Haverhill Paperboard Company and retired from the Bradford plant.
A member of Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, he was also a member of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion, the Lorraine Post of the V.F.W., and served as the local treasurer of the United Paper Workers.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes and fishing, and was an accomplished chess player, competing in local tournaments. An avid reader and history buff, Mr. Henderson most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Judy (Starr) Henderson, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth A. and Jennifer Henderson of Danville, and Andrew P. and Yvonne Henderson of Hampton, NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Colleen B. and Anthony Simonelli of Methuen, MA, two sisters, Maureen Sweeney of East Hampstead, and Jeannette Gavlak and her husband Ken of Lodi, OH, two grandchildren, Abigail Henderson and Alison Henderson, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Henderson's Life Celebration on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will take place on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. in the funeral home followed by the rendering of military honors by the United States Marine Corp.
