Claudia Low

June 21, 1935 — May 24, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claudia Low, who died peacefully with her loving family by her side on May 24, 2026, at the age of 90.

Claudia’s journey was one of resilience, grace, and joy. At just 16 years old, she emigrated from China alone, arriving with limited English to build a new life with relatives she barely knew. She quickly found her footing at Polytechnic High, where she made life-long friends and met the love of her life, John Low. She went on to graduate from LACC with an Associate's Degree in Bookkeeping, and she and John were soon married.

As Chinese immigrants in Southern California in the 1950s, John and Claudia faced daunting odds and limited career opportunities. Undeterred, they grew a thriving business in LA’s Chinatown: the beloved Yee Mee Loo bar and restaurant. For decades, it was a favorite destination for Angelenos. Every night, patrons relied on John’s mixology skills and quirky humor behind the bar, perfectly complemented by Claudia’s bright laugh and warm chatter in the dining room.

Above all, Claudia was devoted to her family. Through their sacrifice and hard work, John and Claudia ensured all three of their children attended the University of Southern California. They became even prouder grandparents when all three grandchildren also became Trojans, eagerly watching their progeny march in the Trojan Marching Band, play ultimate frisbee with the Hellions of Troy, and collect academic awards.

Claudia loved to talk, laugh, and connect with people. She never took herself too seriously and was the first to poke fun at herself. Selfless and gracious, she never wanted to be a bother to anyone, always prioritizing the needs of her children and grandchildren. In her retirement, Claudia found simple joy in family gatherings, chatting on the phone with friends, working on puzzle books, watching classic game shows, and streaming Chinese church services online every Sunday.

Claudia was generous and kind. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and is survived by her son Ted (Nora); daughters Debby and Brenda (Randy); and three devoted grandchildren, Sherri (Alex), Brianne and Jared.

We will miss Claudia dearly. She loved us well and she was well loved by all who knew her. Our hope is that we will reunite with her in heaven with Jesus.
