Clark Gene Smith

October 30, 1943 — November 22, 2018

Born in Magnolia, Arkansas, Clark was the eldest son of Willie and Farrest Smith. His parents instilled the importance of family and community service in each of their children – a legacy that Clark honored, lived, and passed on to his own family.

Clark was blessed with many gifts including a beautiful operatic singing voice; he shared his gift throughout his high school and college years and as a member of the Men's Chorale. Clark was often called upon by friends to sing at weddings and special occasions; his voice leaving a memorable impression on everyone listening.

Clark attended and graduated from Emporia State University and went on to serve in the US Peace Corps. While in the Peace Corp, of all the places he could go, God directed his steps to Jamaica, West Indies - where he met and married Angela - the love of his life – and where their fifty- year love story began. Throughout his journey, Clark captured the hearts of everyone he met with his sincerity, generosity, character and pure heart. To know him, was to love him.

Clark enjoyed a forty plus year career in the banking industry, where his leadership and servant's heart mentored and continued to impact the lives of many people. Clark always saw the best in others and gently helped others to discover the very best in themselves.

Clark had a heart of gold and was loved by his family and everyone who knew him. He demonstrated the love of God and lived a life grounded in integrity. He loved his family and set the standard of what a husband and dad should be. Clark always looked forward to visiting and spending time with family and friends, serving others, gardening, traveling, music and the arts, and exploring new adventures. Clark left an imprint in the hearts of so many, and in so many purposed and unique ways.

In the days ahead, as we reflect on all of the ways that Clark has impacted and will continue to impact our lives, let us honor him by demonstrating the love he shared with us, to others.

Clark leaves to cherish his memory and legacy – his beloved wife of fifty years - Angela, his children – Stephen (Cathy) Smith, Monique (Bryant) Anderson, and Jon-Paul Smith, his grandchildren – Bryant Jr., Tyana, Craig, Alyssa, Jasmine, Aaliyah, Jeadon Paul, Christian, Giovanni, Carlos, and Mia, his brothers and sister – Carnell (Sharon) Smith, Darnell (Betty) Smith, and Barbara Smith, his Godson – John Foster, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Clark was preceded in passing by his parents – Willie and Farrest Smith and his sister – Azora Smith.
