Christianne Perez Maramba, affectionately known as Dete Christy, was born on March 11, 1952, in Manila, Philippines, to Jose “Bernie” and Leonila “Nellie” Salcedo Perez. She was the third of eight children.
On January 18, 1979, she married Feliciano Siapno “Nonong” Maramba; and together they had three sons. In the US, they first lived in Pacifica, CA, before moving to Victorville, CA. Dete Christy was a devoted stay-at-home mom while Nonong continued to work in San Francisco until he secured a new job in Los Angeles after many years of commuting.
Dete Christy completed her early education at Philippine Christian University/Union Elementary School (PCU/UES) in 1966 and graduated from high school at the University of the Philippines Preparatory School (UP Prep) in 1970. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the University of the Philippines (UP) in 1974 and contributed to various commercial and residential projects in the Philippines. After migrating to the US in 1984, she managed their home and cared for their children while studying AutoCAD (Automatic Computer-Aided Design) at Victor Valley Community College in the mid-to-late 1990s. This led to roles with companies such as Morasi Inc., Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc., and Cornerstone Design & Drafting. Additionally, she taught AutoCAD at ITT Technical Institute and later worked as a freelance designer.
Dete Christy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at age 14. She was an active member of Church of Christ The Good Shepherd (CCGS) in Lakewood, where she contributed significantly to building and facility improvements as part of the diaconal team.
She never missed an opportunity to share her faith with others and always prayed that those she met would also come to accept Jesus Christ. She was a kind, welcoming person who found any reason for a gathering at their home.
She is survived by her husband Nonong; their three sons: Mark (and his wife Nancy), Don, and Paul; and two granddaughters, Audrey and Olivia. She also leaves behind her sisters Susan Suntay (Rene), Florence, Evangeline “Belen” Miranda (Bert), Diana Talana (Manny) ; brothers Napoleon “Paul/Bombet” (Bill) and David “DJ” (Sal), along with their families. Dete Christy is now reunited in heaven with her parents and her eldest brother Jose Bernabe Perez Jr. (Joey/Boy), who passed away on October 31, 1970.
Dete Christy left us on October 31, 2024, passing away at her home in Santa Fe Springs, surrounded by loved ones. We will miss her smile, distinctive voice, and joyful spirit. However, we find peace knowing that due to her strong faith, she is now living an everlasting life in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. Those of us left behind will strive to live as faithfully as she did so that one day we will be reunited with Dete Christy in heaven and live eternally in the presence of the Lord. To God be the glory!
