Ching and his beloved friend and wife Nellie married on May 30, 1940. Together they raised six children. They celebrated their 70th anniversary together. Nellie passed away November, 2010.

Mr. Chu was appointed the first asian postmaster in the United States of America. He will be remembered as a brilliant, witty, honest and loving man.

He is survived by his children, Patricia, Shirley, Najon, Linda and her husband Jim Joseph, Lynnette and her husband Jim Altamirano; grandchildren Victor and his wife Melissa, Winston, Rachel and Elizabeth; and four great grandchildren.,
