Cheryl Gray, 70, born on January 15, 1955, in Los Angeles, CA, United States, passed away December 31, 2025. She resided in Rancho Cucamonga, CA at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, CA.
On Saturday, January 15th, 1955, Cheryl was born to Ruby Johnson and Raymond Gray in Los Angeles, CA.
Raised in Compton, Cheryl’s curiosity about the world around her inspired her to finish high school in the San Francisco Bay Area at the Katherine Branson School, a boarding school for girls. After graduating in 1973, she decided to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Colorado Women’s College, which she completed in 1977.
Cheryl returned to Southern California and began what became a lifelong career as an insurance Claims Manager. In 1988, she became a mother to her only child, Megan, and they soon settled into a beautiful life in Rancho Cucamonga. Cheryl continued to pursue her education and proudly graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Master of Arts in Organizational Management in 2004, which took her career to new heights until her retirement in 2020.
Cheryl had a deep passion for the arts and was a true cinephile. She was an avid reader and a committed supporter of Black artists, finding joy in stories, music, and films that reflected culture, creativity, and truth. A lover of jazz, she attended many concerts and festivals and could recommend an excellent movie, song, or artist to anyone. She was also a devoted football fan (Go Ravens!) and was blessed to attend several Super Bowl games throughout her lifetime. A lover of travel, Cheryl had the opportunity to see parts of the world, making lasting memories with friends in Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister, and stepfather. She is survived by her daughter, Megan, and a host of lifelong friends who became her chosen family.
Cheryl lived a life surrounded by love and will be deeply missed. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered as a kind, strong, giving, and confident woman whose presence left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.Cheryl did not want her passing to be a moment of sorrow, so in lieu of a traditional funeral, there will be a viewing at Forest Lawn- Covina Hills and a celebration of life taking place thereafter. Please join us in celebrating a life well lived.
