Cheryl Alexander

Born on November 26, 1944, Cheryl Ann Alexander was a scholar, singer, and spiritual seeker. She was a proud Trinidadian woman, who left the island as a young girl to join her mother in New York City. Always a top student, her inquisitive mind led her to two loves: science and music. After graduating high school and completing her bachelor’s degree at New York University in 1964, Cheryl attended UCLA, where she earned her PhD in biology. Specializing in cell biology she completed her post doctoral studies in Toronto, Canada in 1975. Cheryl received a number of honors throughout her distinguished scholarships including Augerson Award for Distinguished Scholarship, UCLA and New York State Regents College Scholarship. 

Cheryl loved music of all kinds, from classical to calypso, was a member of the Los Angeles Women’s Chorus for many years. She was a longtime member of the Pasadena branch of the Anthroposophical Society in America. A student of the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, Cheryl enjoyed studying his writings, among them Death as Metamorphosis. 

Cheryl died in Pasadena on August 31, 2026. Family members who preceded her in death included her mother, Claudine Montserin and her mother’s sister, Hyacinth, who cared for Cheryl when she was young. 

Cheryl was beloved by her many friends throughout the country. She will be dearly missed.
