Charles Henry Mozell

August 13, 1923 — November 20, 2013

Charles Henry Mozell of Los Angeles will be buried today at Riverside Veterans Memorial Park. Born August 13, 1923 to Lillie Ormond Mozell and Team Mozell in Oriental, Pamlico County, NC, Charles moved to NYC as a teenager to live with his sister. Later, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served for over six years. During his WWII tour of duty, he earned seven battle stars, and made four trips around the world. He met his loving wife, Mattie Ruth Davis, while his Navy vessel was at port in Long Beach. They fell deeply in love and they were married within two weeks. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Charles settled in the San Fernando Valley where he and Mattie raised their four children, and he worked in the aircraft industry. He and his wife were active in their community and Charles served as a deacon in their church. He worked for over 30 years for Los Angeles Unified School District. In addition, he was a man of exceptional culinary and dancing skills. However, his greatest pride came from being a dedicated and devoted father and grandfather. His parents, and his daughter and son, Cheryl Lavita Mozell and Delbert Charles Mozell, proceed him in death. His daughter, Jacqueline Andrews, and son, Reinard Mozell, survive Charles. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, including: granddaughter, Crystal Mozell; granddaughter, Hasoni Pratts; granddaughter, LaQuettia Mozell; granddaughter, LaKia Mozell; granddaughter, Venus Fears; and grandson, Nicholus Andrews. Plus, he leaves a loving legacy of nine great grandchildren who will proudly carry the memory of their great-grandfather throughout the rest of their lives. He departed this life peacefully as a God-fearing war hero, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend on November 20, 2013 at his home in Los Angeles, CA.
