Charles Moore – In Memoriam
Charles Moore was born in Flora Mississippi on March 1, 1948. Chuck passed away from heart failure on February 21, 2025 at the Corona Regional Hospital in Corona, California. As an adolescent Chuck moved with his family from Mississippi to Southern California.
In California, Chuck developed into an outstanding athlete. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1966 as the Student Body President. In that year, as a 2-time high school All-American, Chuck was arguably the best high school basketball player in the state of California. His Long Beach Poly team was the Number 1 High School team in the state and he and teammate Trent Gaines were named the CIF Co-Players of the Year. Other teammates such as Gene Washington and Mack Calvin and Kenny Booker went on to play major college sports and even in the NFL, the ABA and the NBA.
Chuck chose to play basketball at Stanford University after having declined athletic scholarship offers from UCLA and USC (among others). Additionally, Chuck was an outstanding baseball player, who opted to forego being drafted into professional baseball, in lieu of a college education. At Stanford, Chuck excelled despite sustaining and working through several major injuries. After college Chuck worked as a marketing executive with the National Basketball Association. He helped to develop NBA All-Star game programs, among a myriad of other assignments. Chuck also worked on the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Moore, and his mother Elise. He is survived by his wife, Eneida Moore, and his daughter, Rebecca Moore, and step-children Daniel, Joshua and Jonathan. He is also survived by two sisters, Rebecca Moore and Barbara Moore and by a host of nieces and nephews.
Chuck will be remembered for his kind disposition, his big laugh and immaculate jump shot, his penchant for cruising in his 64 Impala while blaring out and singing along with Sugar Pie Honey Bunch, and for his overall, quiet pursuit of excellence. Chuck has requested that no service be held to mark his passing. However, in keeping with Chuck’s unwavering life of service and kindness, and his belief in the power of love, his family requests that acts of kindness and forgiveness be lifted-up and rendered in Chuck’s name and memory, in perpetuity.
Love one another, and forever remember Chuck Moore, as a man who tried his best to make this realm a better place at each step along his remarkable journey’s way.
