Dr. Charles William (Chuck) Hayward , 71, passed away on March 15, 2013, at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Ca. Born on May 15, 1941, Chuck grew up in Lenexa, Kansas, with his parents Margaret and Charles Hayward, and sisters, Harriett and Susan.
Upon graduating from Shawnee Mission High School in 1959, Chuck attended Kansas University on a Cross Country and Track and Field Scholarship. Chuck graduated in 1963 after receiving many accolades as a steeplechaser and led both his cross country and track teams to many victories. Chuck later went on to run for the United States Marine Corp and spent the second part of his career competing in marathons. One of the most memorable was the marathon he ran for his 60th birthday with his three children, Anna, Melissa and Christopher Hayward.
After receiving his B.S. degree in Advertising and Business, Check went on to receive a Masters of Theology from Wartburg Seminary, Masters of Social Science and a Doctorate in Social Psychology. Chuck spent his time from 1968-1978 as a Lutheran Minister at Christ Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Washington. Throughout the years, Chuck was always thankful for the wonderful friends and fond memories he made while at Christ Lutheran Church.
Chuck founded The Center For Leadership Development in 1984 and for thirty years, he consulted, trained, spoke and counseled individuals and organizations on work performance and overall quality of life.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 11 years, Anna Kelly, his daughters, Anna Hayward (Goss), Melissa Hayward (Goode), son Christopher Hayward; his stepsons William and Matthew Kelly; his sisters, Harriet Hayward and Susan Herman; and his grandchildren, Joey, Sofi, Jack, Evan, Charlie, Conor, Timothy, William and Jocelyn. Chuck was extremely proud of his family and was a loving husband, father and friend to all.
Chuck was passionate about sailing and relished spending his free time sailing in the San Juan Islands, where he and Anna considered Roche Harbor, San Juan Island their second home.
