Charles K. Forey

April 2, 1918 — October 1, 2012

Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather
Charles died peacefully, after a short illness, on October 1st, 2012, at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Calif. He was born April 2, 1918 in Indianapolis, Ind. to Charles Joseph and Mary Agnes Forey. He lived in the South Bay area for 33 years and in Cathedral City for more than 20 years. He was an eternally grateful graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. He sold newspapers and worked odd jobs through the Great Depression. Joining the U.S. Army after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Charles served as a Medic during World War II treating our wounded soldiers returning from Europe; and later, on Leyte, in the Philippines until the end of the war with Japan. He retired as a machinist for North American Aviation in El Segundo, Calif. and proudly worked on the first Apollo command modules and all five space shuttles. By his own words, he lived a good life and grieved that he could not spend his remaining years with his wife and soul mate, Alice, who passed away in 2003. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Marie; daughter, Donna Lee Groveunder; his brothers, Harold, Robert and Carl; sisters, Elizabeth, Margie and Rose; and lifelong buddies, Chuck Atkins and Bob Higgenbottom. Survivors include sons, Charles A. Forey of Cathedral City; Dean Phillips and wife, Gloria, of Arlington, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. On Saturday, October 6, 2012, a visitation with the family will precede the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at the Ramon Chapel of Forest Lawn Cathedral City with entombment following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cathedral City.
