Cecil Leroy Doty, Jr.

C. LeRoy Doty passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 in Irvine, California at the age of 89.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Janette (Jan) Doty, children Mark Doty, Steve Doty, Kim Bowen, Don Desfor, Diane Stalder, Emily Desfor, Laura Edles, and 17 grandchildren.
Born February 4, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas, LeRoy graduated from McPherson College in 1950 with a degree in History. He then added two graduate degrees, a Master of Divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary, and a Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
LeRoy was a Brethren Pastor in California for twelve years. During his ten years as pastor at The First Church of the Brethren in Long Beach, he was moved by the poor living conditions of many of the elderly members of his congregation and community at large. Together with a few volunteer church members, LeRoy developed and built Long Beach Brethren Manor, a 297-unit HUD 202 housing project which opened in 1965, with the objective of providing decent, affordable housing for seniors. It was one of the first HUD 202 projects on the west coast and became a prototype for 36 additional affordable housing projects developed by Doty-Burton Associates for non-profit sponsors. In 1975, LeRoy formed LOMCO (Living Opportunities Management Company) to manage many of the facilities developed by Doty-Burton. LOMCO's motto, "Professional Management with a Human Touch" reflected LeRoy's ideals.
One of LeRoy's greatest pleasures was travelling the world with his wife Jan and close friends Charles and Margie John.
LeRoy will be deeply missed by his family and friends for his loving and generous nature.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 8 at 2:00pm at California Heights United Methodist Church, 3759 Orange Ave., Long Beach.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Toberman Neighborhood Center in San Pedro, Cal Heights United Methodist Church, and the Salvation Army.
