Catherine E. Montenegro

Catherine E. Montenegro, 80, was born on July 19, 1943, in Ridgway, PA. She passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024 in Corona, CA. 

Cathy had an impressive career as an educator in the Long Beach Unified School District. She started her journey at Milikan High School in 1961 and later pursued her education at Long Beach City College, Long Beach State, and Azusa Pacific University, where she earned her Master's Degree. It was during her college years that she met Bob, and they tied the knot in 1966.

Throughout her 39-year tenure as an educator, Cathy took on various roles such as a reading specialist, Mentor Teacher, and Teacher Trainer. Cathy was also recognized by the National Library Association for starting a district wide reading club. Her dedication and passion for teaching were recognized when she received the Teacher of The Year Award from LBUSD in 1995. After her long and successful career, Cathy retired and settled in Temescal Valley with Bob.

Cathy had a diverse range of hobbies that brought her joy, including gardening, reading, and collecting bottles, rocks, and sea glass. In addition to her hobbies, she was also a published author of three children's books: "ABC's In The Kitchen," "Holes In My Shoes Oh No!," and "A Gift From Santa." She took great pride in being a devoted Nana, cherishing the time she spent with her grandchildren, and relishing the moments spent attending their activities.

Cathy is survived by her beloved husband Bob of 58 years, her daughters Mary (Mike) and Marci (Mike), four grandchildren - Megan, CJ, Leah, and Aubrey, her brother Joe, and her sisters Colleen and Peggy. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael.
