Carole Laurine (Gray) Freet, 96, of Palm Desert, California died following a stroke on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in Cathedral City, California.

She was born on September 24, 1921 in Wellman, Washington County, Iowa to Harold Edwin "Buzz" Gray and Golda Marie "Goldie" Crossett. Carole was raised in Washington and Toledo, Iowa. She was the oldest of eight children: Doris, Donald, and Karen preceded her in death; and Ellen, Ronald, Larry, and Steven reside in Missouri.

She married Hubert A. "Herb" Freet on January 1, 1942 in Lancaster, Missouri. Herb joined the Navy after Pearl Harbor and was stationed in San Diego. Carole followed months later by taking a troop train from Washington, Iowa to San Diego. They fell in love with the life style, beaches, and warm climate of southern California living in Ocean Beach, Chula Vista, Santee, and La Mesa before retiring and moving to Hemet, Idyllwild, and finally to Palm Desert. Herb preceded her in death on March 24, 2006 in Palm Desert.

Carole enjoyed being involved with family and friends through special meals, family gatherings, and parties. She was an active person, who over the years supported her boys in school with PTA, did retail sales, entertained guests, commercially decorated cakes, swam on a regular basis, loved to travel, and later became an avid Bridge player.

Survived by: her sons, Bruce L. Freet and Bary A. Freet. Bruce resides in Mount Vernon, Washington with his wife, June, and Bary resides in Cathedral City, California with his wife, Cheryl. She has three grandchildren: Bruce and June's children Seth Freet and Laura (Eric) Torseth; and Bary and Cheryl's son, Troy (Jennifer). Her great grandchildren include: Aurora, Ella, and Raven Freet; Jackson and Annika Torseth; and Dylan Freet.

Services: Carole will be interned next to Herb in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cathedral City, California. There will be a private family ceremony.
