Carol Jackson, a beloved and elegant mother and grandmother, and the matriarch of her family, left her earthly body on December 24th, 2025. She loved people, was an encourager, mentor, and always made you feel special with her thoughtful words and deeds. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her son, granddaughter and extended family and friends.
Carol was born on October 15th, 1951, in Fort Worth, TX. After a brief stint with her beloved Mama in Lake Charles, LA, her parents, Theresa Matthews and Johnny Lee Benjamin Jr. brought her to Detroit, MI. There she attended Cass Technical High School and Eastern Michigan University (EMU). At EMU she obtained her Master’s degree and graduated with Honors. While at EMU, Carol met Vern Jackson and they were married and had their son Tarik Jackson. Carol excelled in Financial Management at Mervyn’s for many years before moving on to Smart & Final until retirement.
After retirement she pursued her interests in travel and dance. She travelled to the far reaches of the planet from Canada, France, South Africa, Panama, Belize, Mexico and South Korea. She also visited many of our Great National Parks and the world's great waterfalls. She loved travel so much she worked as travel agent after retirement. She also enjoyed dancing, learning Salsa and Latin Dancing and even Belly Dancing.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Theresa and Johnny Lee Benjamin Jr and her brother's Johnny Lee Benjamin III and Millard Benjamin. She leaves to cherish her memories her son Tarik (Tyecha), granddaughter Tori Jackson and brothers Charles Benjamin and Franklin Duplechain (Scarlett), a Niece and Nephews and an abundance of Cousins, Friends and Colleagues. Carol was a strong, beautiful, generous, and devoted Mom. Carol was also a role model and mentor to Peter, Tarik’s best friend. Tarik and his wife Tyecha had their daughter Tori in 2020. Carol, affectionately known as Nona, forged a strong and unique bond with her granddaughter Tori, just like she had with her beloved Mama.
