Carol Brown

Carol Ann Brown was born on December 23, 1938, in Oklahoma to TD and Evelyn Cornell. As a daughter of an active US Army Lieutenant Colonel, she spent much of her youth abroad. The family settled in Lakewood, California where Carol attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School and California State University Long Beach. She met her husband and became a Navy wife. After Navy life, she returned to Lakewood and worked at Southern California Military Academy where she met her lifelong friend Jamie Grinsell. Together, Carol and Jamie had a vision to start a school providing quality education and sharing the love of Jesus. In 1978, they opened the doors to the First Baptist Church of Lakewood Elementary School, now named Lakewood Christian Schools. She taught first grade and Sunday school for many decades.

When she retired, Carol enjoyed traveling around the world while also remaining an active member of her church. She organized Thrifty Trips through the church providing affordable opportunities for senior citizens and others to experience the world. She also became an active member of the Weingart Senior Center in Lakewood. She especially enjoyed exercise classes and socializing with her many friends. She also served as a travel buddy for the Metro LA On the Move Riders Program. As a long time resident of Levelside Avenue, she also enjoyed connecting with her neighbors and their furry friends daily.

She joined her parents and grandson, Christopher Brown, in heaven on October 20, 2025 and is survived by her two daughters, Kerri-Mignon Butler and Allison Bizleboots, and her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hunt.
