Kathleen was born in Brookfield, Missouri on September 11, 1929 to Annastasia Conlin. Her father John Earl worked as a salesman for a large industrial machinery company. Her early years were spent with her older brother, Michael, between the family farm and her home in Brookfield. The family farm was run by her Uncle William O'Shaughnessy and her grandmother Margaret 'Maggie' O'Shaughnessy.
Her great-grandfather, Caleb Othic, fought in the Civil War and served with distinction with the 9th Illinois Cavalry.
After her father moved his family from Brookfield in 1937, they lived in several cities in Kansas before they moved to Los Angeles, California. She graduated from El Segundo High School in 1946 and attended El Camino Community College. Soon after, she met and fell in love with Vaughn Anthony.
On September 8, 1949 they were married and they were to stay happily married for 42 years as they raised eight childrenâKevin, Jennifer, Gail, Denis, Mary Kay, Patricia, Rose Marie and John.
She moved to Palm Desert in 1984 to a climate that provided a better environment for our father, Vaughn, as he fought the ill effects of Polymyositis. She was a full-time caregiver for him until he preceded her in death on April 26, 1994. She never remarried and carried the love of her husband in her heart until her passing. Through the years, she enjoyed a life with thirty-two grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
With love and her rich Irish humor, she touched the lives of a great many people. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic religion and was known to share novenas and prayers with her children and family in times of need. She loved her children, and they found in her a strength and inner resolve that has sustained them as they have grown in their careers and raised their families.
The love of her children was plainly evident on many occasions but especially on a recent trip to Hawaii with her daughters to support and share their love with her daughter and their sister, Patricia, who has battled the effects of multiple sclerosis for thirty-five years.
An inspiration in the way to live one's life, she has imbued her children and their children with the deep qualities of kindness, caring, and service to others.
