Carlo T. Magno Sr., 91, born on April 27, 1921, passed away July 27, 2012. He resided in Corona, California since 1993 and moved to Daly City, California in 2012.
Carlo was born in Cagayan, Philippines to Guillerma Tugade and Simeon Magno, and is the oldest of eight children. He was a responsible son and caring brother who always looked out for the welfare and well-being of his younger brothers and sisters. He attended grade school and graduated as valedictorian in his hometown. Carlo moved to the big city, now known as the Metro Manila, to attend high school at the then top academic school, University of the Philippines High School. He continued at the collegiate level at the University of the Philippines to pursue an engineering degree. World War II broke out and his educational pursuit was immediately halted. After the war ended, the University of the Philippines suffered so much damage, it could not resume classes. Carlo could not wait and decided to finish his education and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at National University. He took the Board and he placed number one. He later obtained two more degrees - in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
After college he started his career at the patent office, although short-lived. He pursued his real passion â education, his lifelong career. He taught Engineering at his alma mater and made a difference in his students' education and lives. His career in the Philippines culminated with his attainment of the top leadership position as the Dean of Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical and Industrial during the last decade.
In 1949 Carlo married Ismaela Fernandez. They had seven children, seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Carlo was a devoted spouse, loving father and good provider for his family. In 1975 his wife passed away and Carlo made his family, children and grandchildren the center of his life. In 1984 Carlo retired from his position at the university and immigrated to the United States. He taught high school for less than a decade at Cleveland High School in Reseda, CA and eventually retired.
He is survived by all seven of his children, Boy, Butch, Baby, Bim, Mais, Cristina, Ana, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Through Carlo's perseverance and hard work all his children successfully completed their education and are accomplished in their respective careers. Carlo will always remain in the hearts of his family and loved ones as an ideal son and brother, loving father, self-made man, an exceptional educator and a fine human being.
