Calliopi Burge

May 22, 1934 — June 29, 2021

Calliopi "Poppy" Burge was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this earth for Heaven on June 29, 2021 at the age of 87. She is survived by her husband, two sons, granddaughter, sister, sister in-law, nieces and their children.

She was born in Chalkis, on the island of Evia in Greece to Christos and Stamatoula Paleologos. She has a brother and sister, Yianni and Foto. She met her husband, James Burge, when he was stationed in Greece with the Air Force. Poppy and James were married in Greece on May 27, 1962, and soon after left for the United States. They were married for 59 years (together for 61) and had two boys, Robert and Michael.

The most important things to Poppy was her love for the Lord and her family. She told everyone that "Jesus was her best friend" and watched Christian TV shows everyday, with Sunday being her favorite day of the week. She was very happy that she brought Jesus into her family's lives on a daily basis. Poppy also loved her husband and both of her boys very much. Even after her children were grown and living on their own, she would call them several times each and everyday just to hear their voices, learn about their day, and to tell them how much she loved them. Later in life, her love for her granddaughter Adalyn brought her joy and happiness. Every time she spoke about Adalyn she was glowing and wore a huge smile.

Throughout her life, Poppy was very focused on being the best Christian, wife and mother for her family. She was the pillar that held everyone together, and will be missed by all those who were proud to have her in their lives.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1:30 PM on July 22, 2021 at the Church of Our Fathers, Cypress Forest Lawn, 4471, Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, California 90630.
