Bruce Phillip Budovec, born on July 28, 1943, in Hinsdale, Illinois, passed away on June 2, 2025, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service, love, and dedication. Bruce's journey through life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his family, his distinguished career, and his strong values that resonated through all his endeavors.
After graduating from Hinsdale Township High School, Bruce earned a Master’s degree from Utah State University, complemented by a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology. His professional life began at Reynolds Metals in McCook, Illinois, where he entered a management training program. However, his true passion lay in aviation, leading him to join the Navy, where he served as a pilot for six years. His military service included three years stationed in Hawaii and deployments in Vietnam, completing two six-month tours. Following his tenure in the Navy, Bruce became an instructor at the Navy’s advanced multi-engine flight school in Southeastern Texas.
Upon resigning from the Navy, Bruce sought a career in airlines, but circumstances directed him to LeeWards in Elgin, Illinois, as a Production Control Manager. Later, he transitioned into an aircraft accident investigating firm based in the O’Hare area. His expertise eventually took him to Seattle, where he opened and managed a branch office. Unfortunately, company-wide restructuring forced the closure of the Seattle office in 1985, prompting Bruce to work independently as an investigator. This chapter of his career culminated in 1986 when he was hired by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company as a Safety Analyst and Accident Investigator in Long Beach, California, where he served until his retirement in 2010.
Bruce was more than just a professional; he was also a family man deeply devoted to his loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Budovec; his children, Pamela Beck-Budovec, Matthew Budovec, Sandra Thomas, and Sarah Escobedo; and his cherished grandchildren, Adam Beck, Grace Beck, Aaron Pierce, Bradley Pierce, Riley Pierce, Ethan Escobedo, Mason Gray, Mikayla Gray, and Alyvia Escobedo. Bruce's proudest accomplishments were rooted in his family's achievements, as he always fostered an environment that encouraged growth and ambition.
Those who knew Bruce remember him not only for his meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills but also for his great sense of humor and engaging storytelling. His personality blended strength and fairness with a deep-seated faith. Bruce had a remarkable ability to make those around him feel safe and secure, never failing to say a prayer before meals or family trips. He cultivated family traditions that will forever be cherished, notably the personalized Christmas ornaments that he and Marilyn began, creating lasting memories for generations.
Bruce also held a profound love for animals, actively supporting shelters through generous donations, among many other local charities and donations to religious organizations. His interests extended to collecting guns, enjoying visits to the shooting range, and nurturing his faith, which he considered paramount in his life.
Bruce Phillip Budovec will be remembered for his impactful presence, his commitment to faith, family, and freedom, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of his loved ones. A funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn - Cypress - Patriots Chapel in Cypress, California, on July 12, 2025, at 11:30 AM. A light lunch reception will take place shortly after the service at Forest Lawn beginning at 2:00pm. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
