It is with a thankful heart that we celebrate the life of Bror (Willy) Allan Wilson, who transitioned to Heaven on August 21, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on January 9, 1939, in Vaasa, Finland, he was the beloved son of Anna and Alfred Wilson. He grew up alongside his two sisters, Mildred and Karen Wilson, who preceded him in death. Bror is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Wilson, devoted daughter, Carina Melissa Friedlander, son-in-law, Joshua Alan Friedlander, and adoring grandchildren, Emily Rose Friedlander and Mason Gene Friedlander.
Bror’s early life was shaped by the family-owned lumber yard in Finland, which thrived until the devastation of World War II. In the wake of this destruction, the family purchased a farm that became a source of joy and pride for Bror. His love for nature and animals blossomed during these formative years, and he was often seen feeding apples to the horses that came to his kitchen window and helping around the farm.
A man of many talents, Bror served in the Finnish military as a sniper, though he never saw combat. His love for travel and adventure took him across Europe, where he built friendships and connections in every country, including the unforgettable experience of baking for the King of Sweden.
Bror’s journey took a significant turn when he moved to the United States, inspired by a good friend who owned Scandia Bakery, a Swedish bakery in Burbank, California. There, he flourished as Head Pastry Chef for 15 years before stepping into the role of Bakery Director at Hughes Markets and later as Bakery Director at Pavilions Market.
While his professional life was fulfilling, it was the personal connections that truly enriched him. He met his beautiful wife, Rose, at a Scandinavian dance held at the Continental Hall. Ever since gathering the courage to ask her to dance, they have shared a beautiful and meaningful love for 50 years.
Together, they welcomed their cherished daughter, Carina, into the world on July 21, 1982. Along with Rose, Bror dedicated his life to creating a loving home for Carina, sparing no effort in providing her with the love and comforts of a beautiful childhood. This was the most important job to Bror.
After retiring at the age of 68, Bror spent his later years surrounded by family, sharing his charming personality, sophistication, and subtle humor that could light up any room.
He was a true people person, known for enjoying the exquisite flavors of life, often savored with a glass of white wine. He loved music, children, cats, bunnies, goofiness, gardening and nature. He loved and adored his grandchildren—they were the center of his whole world.
Bror will be fondly remembered and loved for his unwavering kindness, adventurous spirit, and sweet, gentle soul. He was the epitome of a thoughtful gentleman.
A celebration of his life will be held on September 14 at 9 a.m. at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, followed with a garden reception at the family home in Woodland Hills.
He will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
