It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brent Gregory Stephenson on July 17th, 2025. Brent was a man whose life was defined by deep love, unwavering dedication, and a gentle, joyful spirit.
Brent is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela (Loughlin) Stephenson; his beloved son, Bryan, and daughter-in-law, Alyssa (Sanchez) Stephenson; his younger brother, Bruce Stephenson, and sister-in-law, Gayle (Wasson) Stephenson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Bois Stephenson and Patricia (Taylor) Stephenson.
Born on May 5, 1948, at St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood, California, Brent grew up in Southern California alongside his brother Bruce. He graduated from Bellflower High School in 1966 and soon after answered the call to serve his country. Brent enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving honorably as a Communications Specialist. After returning home, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves with pride and commitment.
Brent’s greatest joy and purpose in life was his family. He was endlessly grateful for the life he built with his beloved wife, Pamela (Loughlin) Stephenson. He loved Pam totally and completely—he spoke often of his deep admiration and trust in her, not only as his life partner, but as the devoted mother of their son, Bryan. Brent was immensely proud of the man Bryan became and warmly welcomed his daughter-in-law, Alyssa (Sanchez) Stephenson, into the family.
Being a father was the role Brent held most dear. He dedicated himself fully to raising Bryan with love, integrity, and strong values. He succeeded in every way, and his pride in his son’s character was unwavering.
Brent was a deeply tender-hearted man—warm, compassionate, and full of humor. He adored animals, appreciated corny jokes, and brought laughter wherever he went. He wasn’t afraid to show emotion and approached life with a spirit of joy and gratitude. He cherished small moments of connection, especially the letters he exchanged with his great niece in Pennsylvania, often filled with silly stories and heartfelt affection.
An accomplished artist, Brent created beautifully detailed miniature models that won awards and were featured in international military miniatures magazines. His work reflected his patience, precision, and boundless creativity.
In his professional life, Brent was committed to helping others. He worked at the VA assisting veterans on the spinal cord unit, at Los Alamitos Hospital, and later at the ARC as an Occupational Training Supervisor, where he taught adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities skills to lead more independent lives. Many who worked with him saw him as a mentor and lovingly called him “Pappi”—a testament to the impact he had.
Brent had a rare gift for making people feel seen and appreciated. Whether it was close family, a former coworker, the clerk at the corner store, or the hospital staff who brought him “the best chicken salad sandwiches,” Brent made sure everyone knew their kindness mattered. Even during his most difficult moments, he went out of his way to express his gratitude. His grace, humor, and humility touched countless lives.
Music was woven into the fabric of Brent’s life. Whether playing trumpet or bass guitar, singing, or whistling through his day, there was always a rhythm propelling him forward. He was a voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity, especially drawn to history, religion, UFOs, and biographies. He loved discussing politics and was always eager to engage in thoughtful conversations—even (and especially) with those who held different views.
Brent found peace and meaning in his home and in the quiet joy of daily life with those he loved. He often spoke of how blessed he felt, and his presence—marked by love, humor, humility, and quiet wisdom—was a gift to all who knew him.
Brent Gregory Stephenson leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
