Bonnie M. Slack

September 20, 1925 — August 25, 2012

Bonnie M. Slack, 86, born on September, 1925, in Odebolt, Iowa, passed away August 25, 2012 at her home in Lakewood. Bonnie and her husband Earl V. Slack (who preceeded her in death June 1975) were owners of Sileo's restaurant in Long Beach / Signal Hill. Bonnie sold the restaurant and retired but had many fond memories of the customers and employees. Bonnie enjoyed watching her family grow and shared many memorable moments with them all during her retirement. Bonnie is survived by her sons and their families, Michael & Theresa (Lakewood) and Michael's son Renn (Arizona) and Earl & Kirsten (Ventura) and their children, Kellen & his wife Heidi and daughter Danielle (San Marcos), Ryan (San Luis Obispo) and Kaitlyn (Irvine). Bonnie was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She is also survived by her sisters, Marianne Clune, Patricia Jacobson, and brother Charles McWilliams. She was extremely close to all her family and enjoyed visting with them. Per Bonnie's personal wishes there will be no formal services scheduled. One of Bonnie's requests was to share this poem by Isla Paschal Richardson:

To Those I Love
If I should ever leave you whom I love
To go along the Silent Way, grieve not,
Nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk
Of me as if I were beside you there.
(I'd come– I'd come, could I but find a way!
But would not tears and grief be barriers?)
And when you hear a song or see a bird
I loved, please do not let the thought of me
Be sad… for I am loving you just as
I always have… You were so good to me!
There are so many things I wanted still
To do– so many things to say to you…
Remember that I did not fear… It was
Just leaving you that was so hard to face…
We cannot see beyond… But this I know:
I loved you so– 'twas heaven here with you!
~ Isla Paschal Richardson
