Beverly Phillips (Chinue), age 71, passed away on December 29, 2023, in Banning, California surrounded by her children, grandchildren and trusted friend. She was born on May 11, 1952 in Tennessee. She moved to California when she was a toddler. Chinue (God's Own Blessing), as she was loving called, was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend.
Chinue received her primary education from Los Angles Unified School District. Chinue would continue her education to obtain an Associate of Fine Art from Santa Monica College and a Bachelorette of Fine Arts from Cal State University Dominguez Hills. She dedicated many years of her life serving the community as an employee for the County of Los Angeles before retiring. Chinue was a woman of many talents and interest. Her creativity knew no bounds. She found joy in expressing herself through various artistic mediums. She was an enthusiastic artist, soap and candlemaker, blogger, writer and published author, grant writer and longtime Anchor Broadcaster. Chinue enjoyed visiting botanical gardens, attending community social events, growing her business, motivating artist on her podcast, exploring pop-up art events, caring for her fur babies and spending time with her grandchildren. Her love for family, nature and vibrant artistic expression brought her immense joy.
Chinue found solace and inspiration in her faith. She attended Faithful Central Bible Church, Agape International Spiritual Center and small bible study groups is where she connected with her spiritual community. Chinue was a spiritual being, a woman after God's heart. She sought counsel from God and he guided her foot steps even during her illness. God knew her name.
Chinue leaves to cherish her memory: Son Russell, daughter Shantel, grandchildren Javon and Elleese, her two fur babies Gucci and Johnathan, her supportive friends, aunt Lettie and uncle Wyatt, and Cousins Steven, Susan , David, and Brandon. Chinue was proceeded in death by her father, loving stepfather, her beloved mother, sister grandparents, godmother, great-grandmother, great-grandfather and her beloved Zoe.
The family expresses their gratitude for all the support and condolences received during this difficult time. We appreciate the care that Forest Lawn Glendale has provided. Visitation is open. Private burial will be attended by Chinue’s children and grandchildren.
