Beverly Jean O'Neil

November 12, 1942 — September 5, 2013

Beverly J O'Neil passed away on September 5, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born on November 12, 1942, in Long Beach, CA and graduated from Banning High School. She attended Long Beach city College as well as Long Beach State College. She worked at the Long Beach Press Telegram for several years in the communications department.

She fell in love with Michael O'Neil and they were married in 1963. Her daughters Sheri and Sally were born soon after, and the family lived in Huntington Beach where they made many lifelong friends. She participated in the PTA, Bobby Sox Softball (most notably the snack trailer), local bowling leagues, and was very active in her daughter's lives.

Her career started in the newspaper business, moved into banking, and finally to Insurance. Her most recent job was at State Farm Insurance Agent Jim Conrad's office. All of the employees were a second family who provided love, support, and humor every day.

Beverly is survived by her two loving daughters, Sheri O'Neil of Huntington Beach, and Sally Ritchie of Salinas, CA. She has one granddaughter, Emily Michelle Ritchie who was the light in her life. They had a special bond and loved to cook, explore, read, and just enjoy each other's company. Her two "Grand Dogs" named Chloe and Mollie, kept her company and provided entertainment for the family.

Her brothers Richard (Diane) Thomas of Sedona, AZ and Dennis (Janet) Thomas of Lake Havasu, AZ were involved in her life, and they kept in touch across the miles. Nieces Kelly Thomas Masjoan, Tracey Ramos, Dana Studebaker, and Stephanie Thomas Stratton and their children filled the house with love and laughter over many years.

She especially enjoyed her weekly lunches with her three girlfriends, making sure they tried a different restaurant every week. Monthly Bunco nights combined laughter and friendship, and this had been a tradition for well over 20 years.

The words most often used to describe Beverly are: vibrant, happy, kind, loving, and positive. She will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Services will be held at Forest Lawn in Cypress.

She will be missed by her family, friends, and co-workers. Her smile could warm a room, and her infectious laugh made even the dreariest day seem sunny. We love you Mom!!!

Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.
