Beverly Lorraine Lauderbach

November 14, 1920 — November 28, 2017

Lorraine Beverly Sweet Lauderbach, November 14, 1920 to November 28, 2017. Born in Santa Ana, CA, Lorraine was the daughter of James and Theresa Sweet. She was pre—deceased last year by her husband of 75 years, Leon Lauderbach. She is survived by a daughter Suellen Barton of Maui, and Ron Lauderbach (Kathleen) of San Diego, six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She attended Santa Ana public schools, graduating from Santa Ana High School. Lorraine went on to Santa Ana Junior College, then worked as a civilian for the military during WWII. Lorraine married Leon lauderbach in 1942, a marriage that would last for 75 years. She and Leon moved to Tustin where they lived on the family orange grove property until it was sold for development. As a young mother, Lorraine enjoyed camping and going to the beach with her family as well as many church-centered family activities. She was active in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. Mrs. Lauderbach's tacos were famous at Tustin Elementary School carnivals. Lorraine and Leon were long-time members of Mariners, a young adult club at the Santa Ana Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing tennis. She was proud of the mixed doubles trophies she won with her partner, Leon. She was fierce at the net. An avid traveler, Lorraine set foot on every continent except Antarctica. Many of these trips were via Leon's single engine airplanes they flew as far north as Alaska and south to Guatemala. Lorraine loved Utah. She and Leon spent twenty summers and falls at their cabin at Strawberry Point. They hiked, gathered berries and picnicked. In the winter they could visit aboard snowmobiles. She made fun and friends wherever she went. Being a giving person was in Lorraine's nature. She was generous with family and friends as well as a lot of people she didn't know. She believed in her PEO chapter, a philanthropic group that helps women, primarily through education. The Lauderbach family is recognizing and thanking all the caregivers who rendered such wonderful and professional help to Lorraine: Yvonne Garza, Hetty Nixon, Renee Sanchez, Rachel Maciel, and Robert Valadez. Her family called her Grammie. She was truly the family matriarch. Her love, presence, honest advice, and wisdom are missed. A service celebrating Lorraine's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, December 4, at Forest Lawn Mortuary, 69855 Ramon Rd., Cathedral City, 92234. 800-204-3131. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to PEO. Checks should be made to the PEO Chapter RD and mailed to: PEO, c/o Pamela Sinco, 28 Hilton Head Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270.
