Betty Jane Sims

September 4, 1931 — May 15, 2020

Betty Jane (Boyce) Sims was born on September 4, 1931 on her father's 32nd birthday. She was born at home in Redondo Beach, CA to Buford and Matilda Boyce. Betty, 88, passed away peacefully into Heaven in Simi Valley, CA on May 15, 2020.

Betty's parents and brother, Bob, lived in Long Beach and that's where she spent most of her life. After graduation from Long Beach Jordan High School Betty attended UCLA for two years. She quit college to marry Les Vincent and put him through college. They were eventually blessed with two children. Betty always said the most rewarding job she had in her entire life was being a mother. She was active in her children's lives, including their school and activities and at her church, Bethany Baptist Church in Long Beach. After 17 years that marriage ended and Betty went to work as a bookkeeper at Quaker Gardens for 13 years. During that time Betty married John Lee Sims on Sept. 9, 1972 and gained two step-daughters. In 1987 Betty started her business Betty's Bookkeeping and worked for a law corporation as their bookkeeper just 1 or 2 days a week until 2012. The rest of her week she kept busy with grandkids, and various church activities, Hope Again, USC GAP, and Andrus Volunteers at USC. She read everyday and had bookshelves and books in every room in her house. She was a big USC fan (John's alma mater) and loved to watch football and tennis. Betty loved animals - especially cats. They always had a pet cat or two or three. John and Betty loved to travel and were able to frequently.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, brother, her husband John in Sept. 2018 and her great-grandson Benjamin. After her husband, John, passed away Betty and her children decided it would be good for her to live in Simi Valley so she was close by her daughter.

She is survived by her children: Denise (Jeff) Barton, Stuart (Ruth) Vincent. Step-Daughters: Sherry (John) McCoy, Becky (Hap) Waymire. Grandchildren: Megan, Lindsay, Kelley, Daniel. Step-grandchildren: Sarah, Lacey, Luke, Beth. Great-Grandson: Jackson.

Due to the current events the funeral and burial are private at Forest Lawn, Cypress on May 26, 2020 at 11 a.m. but will be live streamed and posted on You Tube. If you would like information on how to watch please E-mail to bjsims2121@gmail.com.
