Betty Jean (Wells) Schultze
Devoted Mother and Civic Leader
Betty Jean Schultze, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Friday, August 09, 2019.
Betty, the oldest of four children, was born on September 9, 1935 in Waco, TX to her parents Walter H. Wells and Velma G. Sadler Wells.
On Betty's ninth birthday her family moved to the Central Valley near Bakersfield, California. Two years later her family moved to Paso Robles, CA where she grew up and attended Paso Robles High School. In the winter of 1951 a young man by the name of Donald E Schultze moved from Missouri with his parents to Paso Robles just three houses from Betty's residence. This young man was smitten by her beauty and In July of 1953 Donald and Betty were married.
Immediately after they married they move to Southern California and from their union came six children.
In 1962 Betty and her husband moved to the City of Hawaiian Gardens, CA and where the family home sits to this day.
As well as raising a family during their life together they both became heavily involved in youth sports like Bobby Sox's, Little League and Pop Warner Football and community services where Betty followed her husband serving on the City Council from 1998 to 2009 which included serving as Mayor of the city of Hawaiian Gardens.
Betty is survived by her children Steven (Lois) Schultze of Hawaiian Gardens, CA, Karen Schultze of Leon Iowa, David (Bonnie) Schultze of Frazier Park, CA, Donna (Bill) Schultze of Hawaiian Gardens, CA, Kenneth (Cheryl) Schultze of Long Beach, CA, and Mary (Robert) Abair of Fontana, CA. She is also survived by her brother Harvey (Rita) Wells of Templeton, CA and many nieces and nephews. To her joy Betty leaves a legacy of 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Schultze, her parents Walter (Velma) Wells and two siblings Edith Wells and Danny Wells as well as two grandchildren Michael Schultze and Christopher Schultze.
Funeral Services for Betty Jean Schultze will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetary, Cypress, CA where she will be laid to rest on August 19, at 9:00 am.
