Betty Ann Mellon

July 9, 1927 — December 10, 2014

Betty Ann Mellon was born in Ashland, Kentucky on July 9, 1927. She married William Carlton Mellon in Catlettsburg, Kentucky on March 31, 1934. They moved to Pasadena, CA in 1945.

Betty grew up in a southern baptist home, and her religion was very important to her. She served as church pianist and organist at several churches. She was the entertainment at all family gatherings; you never knew which was funnier... the joke or her telling it. She and her sisters were extremely close growing up and continued to be so until her passing. Her love and dedication to her family was second only to her love of chocolate.

Betty graduated from Fullerton College with a nursing degree and worked tirelessly until becoming the Nursing Director at Brea Community Hospital. After retiring, she and Billy opened a candy store in Big Bear, CA, unfortunately she ate the profits.

She and her husband loved road trips, especially those taken in their Winnebago. Betty and Billy went to Death Valley on their anniversary every year to see the spring flowers.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, William Carlton in 1992.

Betty is survived by her children Bascom Stephen Mellon of Rancho Cucamunga, CA, Connie Jo Hendricks of Oklahoma City, OK, Patricia Gail Shafer and husband David of West Covina, CA and William Ray Mellon and wife Kimberly of San Jose, CA and 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; her sisters: Jo Browning of Lancaster, CA, Peggy Leathers of Seal Beach, CA, Jenny Carmen and husband Fred, of Floyds Knob, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews who were loved dearly.

She resided at Gladstone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Glendora, California. Betty passed on December 10, 2014 at Citrus Valley Hospice in West Covina, CA. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina, California.

A private internment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery.
