Betty L. Clark

March 5, 1921 — November 9, 2013

Betty Clark Mong, 92, passed away on November 9, 2013 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Her family moved from the mid-west to the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles, Calif. shortly after her birth. As a child, she was a popular singer in the Los Angeles area. She became visually impaired at the age of six and was the first blind student mainstreamed into a public high school in the Western United States. She worked in her family's business, Tom Clark Confections, through her high school and college years. She was employed by Braille Institute of America for over four decades in both Los Angeles and Rancho Mirage. She served as Community Relations Coordinator and as a speaker in their Public Speakers Bureau. She also served as a consultant for film and television for productions with actors who portrayed a visually impaired character. Betty was a much sought after inspirational public speaker throughout the United States and abroad. She has literally touched the lives of millions with her life story and her determination to live a rich, full life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas H. Clark and Bela Clark and her husband Stuart Mong. Betty is survived by her brother, Tom; nephews, Tom and Tim; nieces, Karen and Janie; several grandnieces and nephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and those she loved. Betty's last wish was to have her life story written. That wish came true and the book, A Woman of Vision will be published soon. We know this brings her peace. A special event celebrating Betty's life will be held and announced at a later date. Forest Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries.
