Haverhill, MA: Bertrand J. Vachon, 96, formerly of 7 West Parish Court and 84 Broadway, Haverhill, died on April 17, 2014 at Hannah Duston Long Term Care Facility surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Haverhill, MA son of the late Joseph and Eva (Guilmet) Vachon, he graduated from Haverhill High School with the Class of 1934 and went on to attend MacIntosh Business School. Mr. Vachon served in the United States Army as Master Sergeant during World War II.
As a young man, Mr. Vachon worked in the local shoe industry and then for the United States Postal Service for over forty years, first as a mail carrier and later as Supervisor of Buildings before retiring in 1980.
A member of All Saints Parish and the former Saint Joseph Parish, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and was an alter server for Funeral Masses. Mr. Vachon was a member of the National Association of Federal Employees and the National Association of Postal Supervisors and enjoyed furniture refinishing, gardening, and collecting coins.
He is survived by his loving wife of seventy-one years, Claire (Bouchard) Vachon, a son and daughter-in-law, Russell B. and Linda Vachon of Niskayuna, New York, three daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine G. and Paul LeBlanc of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Adrienne A. and Philip Siney of Haverhill, and Ellen C. and Charles Flynn of Bradford, a sister, Germaine Bedia of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, eight grandchildren, Christine Green, Michelle LeBlanc, Jennifer McIntyre, Jerilyn Hatch, Gregory Vachon, Gretchen Gigante, Ryan West, and Devin West, thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill, MA. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
