Bernard Inchauspe, age 88, passed away on October 26, 2023, in Claremont, California. He was born on February 9, 1935, in Etcharry, France, located in the Basque province of Xiberoa.
Bernard served for the French Army in the Algerian War from 1955 to 1958, demonstrating his commitment to his country. After his military service, he married his wife, Grace, in 1959, and they both emigrated to America in 1962, in pursuit of the American dream.
Soon after arriving in America, he secured a job at Taix French Restaurant in Los Angeles, California. He worked at the restaurant for over five decades, leaving an indelible mark on those he worked with and patrons he served. Known for his strong work ethic, contagious smile, and zest for life, Bernard had the gift of turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. His sense of humor was legendary and his laughter infectious. He had a way of making everyone around him feel cherished and valued, teaching us all the importance of kindness, empathy, and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife, Grace Inchauspe, his daughter Stella Arambel and son-in-law Jean-Louis Arambel, his granddaughters Micaela and Chloe Arambel, and his sister Antoinette Sabate. He was preceded in death by his father, Jean Inchauspe, his mother, Marie Larroque Inchauspe, his brothers Dominique, Jean-Pierre, Francois, and Pierre, and his sisters Marie Bidegain, Claire Bullain, and Marie-Louise.
In addition to his military service and career, Bernard was proud of his Basque roots and had a passion for the Basque card game, Mus, having won multiple N.A.B.O championships in the U.S. He was also an avid reader of historical war books. A man of faith, he was a parishioner of Holy Family Church in Glendale for over 50 years.
