Bernard (Bern) Heath (b. Jackson, Mich., Jan. 20, 1925) passed away on the evening of July 19, 2013 in Palm Desert, Calif. His loving companion of 12 years, Lorene Smith and his two sons, Phil and Chuck were by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sue, in 1998 and his brother, Clarence. He will be missed by his surviving brothers, Carl Heath of Jackson, Mich. and Dave Heath of Saginaw, Mich. and their families; his granddaughter, Ellen Schumer of Bourbonnais, Ill. and her husband Dave and his two great grandsons, Max and Brady; as well as his niece Leslie Yetter of St. Augustine, Fla. His family would like to thank Legend Gardens Assisted Living in Palm Desert, where he spent his final year, for their help and kindness. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, was a member of the Elks Club, and attended Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta, Calif. He spent his forty working years in Sales and Real Estate. He had a great interest and knowledge of flowers and always created and maintained beautiful gardens and grounds around his homes. He also had a great interest in History.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, Calif. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 at 10 am at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta, with interment at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City after the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to Martha's Village and Kitchen, 45596 Fargo Street, Indio, CA 92201, a catholic charity for those in need or The Living Desert, 47900 Portola Ave., Palm Desert, CA 92260.
