His legacy lives on in the places he helped build, the adventures he shared, and, most importantly, in the family and friends whose lives he touched.
Barry Hobart Loud, a longtime resident of Palm Springs, California, passed away on August 18, 2026, at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. He was 76 years old.
Born in Orange, California on May 3, 1950, Barry was the son of Hobart Ramsdel Loud and Marjorie Joyce Helms. Throughout his life, Barry was a devoted father and grandfather, loving partner, brother and uncle, accomplished builder and construction professional, traveler, and friend.
Barry shared 13 years of life, love, and adventure with Juanita “Nita” Javier Cunningham. He was the loving father of James Austin Loud and father-in-law of Lacey Loud, and a proud grandfather to Peyton and Parker.
Barry devoted his professional life to building. A California-licensed general contractor and experienced construction and development professional, he worked on residential, commercial, retail, industrial, resort, and mixed-use projects throughout Southern California and beyond. His career included construction management, project development, general contracting, and coordination of the many people and disciplines required to bring complex projects to life. Among the developments associated with his work were projects in Rancho Cucamonga and Hamilton Cove on Catalina Island, as well as a resort residential project in Estepona, Spain on the Costa del Sol.
Barry had an adventurous spirit and loved travel, sailing, scuba diving, and exploring the world with Nita. Their journeys included Greece, Italy, Turkey, and the Bahamas, among many cherished experiences.
Barry will be remembered as calm, kind, generous, and loving. His legacy lives on in the places he helped build, the adventures he shared, and, most importantly, in the family and friends whose lives he touched.
Barry is survived by his beloved Nita Cunningham; his son and daughter-in-law, James Austin and Lacey Loud, and their children, Barry’s cherished grandchildren, Peyton and Parker; his sister, Donna Rose, and her children, Wendy and John; his brother, Timothy W. Loud, and his children, Sarah, Timmy, Josh, and Aaron; and extended family and friends.
