Barbara was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. She had an adventurous spirit and moved to Washington D. C. and worked in the State Department under the Kennedy Administration. It was in Washinton DC. that she met Cecil Hurst, who was stationed locally in the Army. They dated and then married in July 1963.
Mom loved music (you should see her CD collection), Musical and Theatrical performances, Concerts, the arts, camping, traveling, cooking, candy making, slot machines, Christmas. She also is an original fan of Days of Our Lives (she started watching in 1965), Survivor and the Real Housewives series.
Mom and Dad moved to Long Beach in 1964, bought a house in Lakewood in 1965.
When the three kids were school aged, she was an Avon Lady, supported Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Swimming, Baseball, Football, track, water polo, softball, sports, music instruction, art instruction, Room Mom at St. Pancratius. She also was a medical transcriptionist working at Long Beach Memorial, Downey Hospital then opening her own small business before retiring.
Mom created a home where all the neighborhood kids and adults came over and the kids parked their bikes on the lawn. She was warm, loving and most of all goofy (you had to be to live with Dad).
Mom is survived by her three children: David, Denise and Bill (wife, Sharon), stepdaughter Cheryl Halbert (husband Russ Halbert). She also leaves Grandchildren: Jason Hurst (wife, Delaney), Ian Hurst, Alec Hurst, DeeAnna Chock (husband, Damian Chock) and Sarah Collins (husband, Aron Joe). Mom is also survived by her sister, Rosemary Stone of West Bend, Wisconsin, her niece Carla Geib (husband, Scott) of West Bend, Wisconsin and nephew, Eric Pickering (wife, Sunshine Faunce) of Bryan, Ohio.
