July 8, 1930 - November 29, 2019 Barbara passed away peacefully in Huntington Beach, California at the age of 89. She was born, July 8, 1930, to Paul and Grace (Taylor) Martin in Long Beach, California. She, her sister Mary Ann, and their little brother, Paul, grew up in a small home in Manhattan Beach. When Barbara was 13, the family moved to Garden Farms in San Luis Obispo County, California. There she met the love of her life and future husband, William "Bill" Hall, playing footsies under the desk in eighth grade. It was to be a romance that lasted the rest of their lives. They married in 1952 and the marriage lasted 66 years until Bill passed away in 2018. Barbara was a devoted Catholic. Her religion and outlook on life were woven together. Later, in retirement, she worked as a volunteer with the Hope Office at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. At times she would open up her own wallet to help out a needy soul down on their luck. Barbara worked for many years as a public school teacher in the Garden Grove School District. "Mrs. Hall" was a dedicated instructor. Some days she would come home after work and, while cooking dinner, share stories with her family about a particular student who made her laugh or touched her heart. Barbara embraced life and lived it for all it was worth. Whether it was traveling to a faraway country or snuggling at home with one of her grandchildren, she made sure to enjoy the moment. Nothing delighted her more than being surrounded by family and watching the kids (of all ages) play and grow up over the years. A child of the Depression, Barbara always said she was blessed with good fortune. She was also selfless, courageously caring for her husband, Bill, as he suffered from dementia. Many years ago, when Bill's half brother was a young boy in need of a stable home, Barbara opened up her home to care for him. As a mother of three, rambunctious boys, Barbara instilled in them a strong sense of camaraderie and passed onto them her love of life. Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband William Hall. She is survived by her sister Mary Ann Mooney, her brother, Paul Martin; her three sons, Bill Jr., Steve and Tom; her grandchildren, Jeff, Mike, Danny, Brett, Kyle and Sarah; and great grandchildren, Nora and Emily. Barbara lived a long, full life and we will all miss her. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 7th at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Los Alamitos at 12:00 pm.
