B. Jean Mckim Scully

B. Jean McKim Scully, 100, born on November 18, 1919, in Anaheim, CA, United States, passed away December 23, 2019. She resided in Palm Desert, CA at the time of her passing.

She attended La Sierra College (now part of Loma Linda University) and was offered a scholarship to Julliard School of music, but instead chose to marry a young ministerial student, Orval R. Scully, and follow him to assignments in the mission field: 20 years in Chile, 3 years in Argentina, 2+ years in Bolivia, as well as shorter terms in Bangladesh, Haiti, and Ireland. Together they pastored in California, Michigan, and Arizona for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Jean was known for her love of flowers and flower arranging, her beautiful 5 octave range voice, and paper angel chains she created to entertain little ones in church or distract fussy kids at the supermarket. She had a spirit of adventure, once riding a pack-mule for 7 hours in the high mountains of Bolivia! She attributes her 100 years to being vegetarian for over 70 years, chewing her food well, and a positive attitude interspersed with a healthy sense of humor! After retiring in Palm Desert, she was widowed in 1998 in Palm Desert, CA.

Jean is survived by daughters: Kathleen McCurdy, Carolyn Thomsen Morton, Margaret Lagos Scully, and son, Jonathan O. Scully, as well as 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, California.
